Short-Term Mission Trip: Langano, Ethiopia

  • Camp Langano

We are taking fifty 9th graders from Hope School in Heeraraa to a sports camp in Camp Langano for a week. Camping is a critical element of the overall Sports Friends (organization that runs the camp) strategy and a natural extension of the existing community-based ministry programs. Deep relationships are formed, the good news of God's love is shared, and campers are impacted for eternity. As these young people enjoy sports, games, crafts, music, good food, warm beds, and lots of love, they encounter God in powerful ways. For many campers, they say that camp is the best week of their lives.

As you humbly sacrifice to participate in God's redemptive work, we believe it will be one of the best weeks of your life as well. Anyone who loves working with teens, including teachers, coaches, soccer or volleyball players, college age and up are welcome to participate in this 5 day sports camp with the students. As you help with skits, take pictures, or provide sports instruction, your primary role is simply to lavish God's love upon these young people. In addition, two Venture-supported missionary families work at Camp Langano and this trip is also geared towards visiting and supporting them along with working with the children who attend.

Creative Community

  • Venture Campus - Worship Center

Wednesdays at 7pm  |  March 1-29

Creative Community is series of exciting, creatively-focused workshops designed to develop your abilities while deepening your walk with God. It'll be a great opportunity to learn, interact, share, and grow through this semester. Take a look at the workshop descriptions, pick your class, and register by clicking below!

WORKSHOPS

STUDENT WORSHIP TEAM

If you are a middle school or high school student currently involved or would like to be involved in the 678 or HSM Worship Team or Production Team, join Murph as he provides a fun, interactive time of learning how to grow as a musician, worship leader, vocalist, or production volunteer.

INTRO TO POST-PRODUCTION EFFECTS

Want to learn how to make your own lightsaber fight scene, create psychedelic video effects, or animate your own movie titles or lyric video? Learn the basics of Adobe After Effects in this class, as we explore beginner techniques for Visual Effects and Motion Graphic Animation. No previous experience is necessary for this introductory class. A USB thumb drive (8 GB or larger) is recommended so you can work on projects at home if you choose, but not required.

SKETCHING

This five-week course will begin with basic sketching concepts and progress toward increasingly finer work. We’ll work in graphite, charcoal, conte crayons, pastels, and watercolor pencil as Venture artist Clyde Beck helps us to progressively define a subject toward making it a work of art. If you have a concept you want to work on, that will be great, otherwise Clyde will suggest some subjects for you to choose from. When you sign up for the class Clyde will provide you with a list of materials you will need to bring or buy for this class.

VOCAL LEADING

Get ready to stretch yourself vocally and expressively as we dive into this exciting class! In Vocal Leading, we will cover healthy vocal technique, vocal parts in harmony, worshipful posture, expressive leading, and stage movement. No materials are needed for this class. Just bring yourself and an open and encouraging attitude, as this will be a collaborative and interactive experience.

CREATIVE ARTS PROJECTS

We will be discussing composition and design as you create your own objet d’ art journal and learn Japanese Notan design. No experience is necessary, just a love of creative activity. Class materials will cost $15.

BEHIND THE SCENES

When asked about the Production team, we tend to think of the most obvious aspects: lights, cameras, and... sound. But it actually takes a lot of people behind the scenes to make services run smoothly. In this course, we will explore those less-technical areas for anyone who might be interested in joining the team. Topics will include service producing, stage management, lyrics and slides, and live video directing, taught by team members and church staff. Sound intimidating? Each week will be designed to show how easy it can actually be to get involved in production arts.

MARKETING PLATFORMS: DIGITAL & SOCIAL MEDIA

Whether you are marketing for your business, supporting church activities or someone with an important message, a well thought out platform using digital and social media is an effective way to get your message out to your community. So what is a platform? A platform can be a plug-and-play model that allows multiple participants (producers and consumers) to connect to it, interact with each other, and create and exchange value. This is an introductory workshop, and we’ll identify and explore the best platforms for your message.

Short-Term Mission Trip: Malaga, Spain

  • Magala Spain

We are sending a team to help complete a prayer and meditation sanctuary named “El Mirador de Jenna” or Jenna’s View, located at a christian camp near Malaga, Spain. The sanctuary is being built as a memorial for Bruce and Pam Sider’s daughter, Jenna who went with the Lord in 2014. Bruce and Pam are Venture "homegrown" missionaries who have faithfully served God for many years. The work involves landscaping, small construction for the prayer stations and getting an irrigation system in place. The bigger job is to make the walkways from the camp proper down to the two entrances of the Mirador de Jenna. These will be likely 50 meters and 25 meters. There is no experience necessary to help build this sanctuary.

Short-Term Mission Trip - Joni & Friends Camp

  • MISSION SPRINGS CAMPS & CONFERENCE CENTER

For many years, Venture has sent short-term mission trips to Joni & Friends Camp, and those who have gone have come back from the camps have been touched deeply by the people with a disability and their families. In addition to sharing and caring for them, you will also have a great time participating in great activities like square dancing, swimming, playing water games, and many other activities.

Short-term missionaries eat meals with their assigned family and join with them in most program activities. After some short-term missionary free time in the afternoon (1-1/2 -2 hrs), you will rejoin your family for the evening meal and activities. No previous experience with disability? No problem. We fully train every short term missionary for 1-1/2 days before the Family Retreat begins, and there is constant support throughout the week. This is a great opportunity to serve others and grow in your own faith; it's a life changing experience!

Short-Term Mission Trip - Mt. Olive, MS

  • Mt. Olive, MS USA

This year at Mt. Olive, we'll be working on three projects:

  1. A "mini Beautiful Day." This project will be for all ages, and the goal is to teach the children (& their families) involved in Mt. Olive Ministries the value of serving others. Many times, the children in Mt. Olive Ministries are the recipients of service. However, this year, we will be working alongside children and adults in the community to help beautify properties of elderly people living in the community.
Skill level: All levels! We will be cleaning, landscaping (including the installation of sprinkler systems), and painting. (If you have skill in plumbing, carpentry, or electrical areas, these will also be employed!)
  2. Rebuilding a carport for Mt. Olive Ministries. Teen & adult volunteers. We’ll need a person with carpentry experience who can direct this effort.
  3. Workshops for the children to introduce skills. Career workshops (carpentry, gardening, landscaping, graphic design, computer programming, nursing, etc.) as well as creative workshops (sculpting, watercolors, dance, etc.), academic workshops (computer skills, research skills, tutoring, etc.) and homemaking workshops (cooking, baking, ironing, sewing, organizing, money management). The possibilities are limitless! What has God gifted you with that you could teach these children?

For many years, Venture has sent short-term mission trips to Joni & Friends Camp, and those who have gone have come back from the camps have been touched deeply by the people with a disability and their families. In addition to sharing and caring for them, you will also have a great time participating in great activities like square dancing, swimming, playing water games, and many other activities.

Short-term missionaries eat meals with their assigned family and join with them in most program activities. After some short-term missionary free time in the afternoon (1-1/2 -2 hrs), you will rejoin your family for the evening meal and activities. No previous experience with disability? No problem. We fully train every short-term missionary for 1-1/2 days before the Family Retreat begins, and there is constant support throughout the week. This is a great opportunity to serve others and grow in your own faith; it's a life changing experience!

Analog: How to Turn Digital Interactions Into Meaningful Relationships

  • Jubilee Christian Center

Join us at Jubilee Christian Center on Thursday, February 2 at 6:30pm and hear Nick Runyon of CV Global.

Topic: How to connect digital engagements in a modern era into real, tangible physical relationships

Nick is the Executive director of CV North America where he provides directional leadership and strategic management of Touch a Billion and Impact a Nation strategies. After spending over a year traveling North America and listening to the needs of churches, Nick launched "searchable.church" as a turn-key digital gateway for evangelism and discipleship that allows churches to take advantage of the FREE Google for Nonprofits program where $10,000/month in Adwords advertising is provided.

Since its founding in the U.K. 26 years ago, CV has grown to include teams in 22 countries. CV’s media strategies are part of its “Touch-a-Billion” emphasis, which uses the most effective media platforms to introduce individuals to Jesus in the world’s major languages. The goal is to reach 1 billion people around the world with a clear presentation of the Gospel message and an opportunity to make a decision for Christ.

Another component of CV’s ministry is its “Impact-a-Nation” projects, which operate ‘on the ground’ on a national scale in areas and times of particular opportunity. CV equips indigenous national church leaders with strategies and tools for evangelism and discipleship. Their goal is to build sustainable models in church leadership programs and planting projects such that local Christians are empowered to build Christian faith from the ground up.

Intentional Parenting Conference

Intentional Parenting Conference

  • Venture Campus - Worship Center

Raising kids in today's culture is a difficult challenge, and it requires a plan. Without a plan, parents usually default to Quick-Fix Parenting. Let's face it: it's just easier to focus on immediate problems rather than deal with the deeper and more important ones. Surviving each day is much easier than taking the time and energy to consider how parenting actions impact a child's future.

We get it. To be an exceptional parent, you need to be an intentional parent.

Join us at Venture as Doug Fields shares from experience how to be an intentional parent. Doug is an author (60+ books), consultant, co-founder of DownloadYouthMinistry.com, and he is the Director of HomeWord's Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific University.

This event is FREE with registration, and free care for children (1st - 8th grade) is available with a reservation (care for birth-kindergarten is currently full).

Freedom Night

  • Venture Campus - Venue 2

Join us for Freedom Night, a monthly gathering dedicated to corporate prayer and worshipful expression. Each month is led by members of the Venture worship and prayer teams, and consists of worship through music and prayer for the life of our church.  The idea behind Freedom Night is to seek “freedom” in the expression of worship, so no two Freedom Nights look quite the same.

A growing church is a praying church, so join us on the first Thursday of each month in Venue 2 for an opportunity to worship and pray for our church and one another.
