WORKSHOPS

November 16

VOCAL LEADING TECHNIQUES

This workshop will focus on 'The Ford Technique' singing techniques and how they can be applied to worship and popular styles. Jessica will discuss and demonstrate how to develop a personal, confident, and healthy vocal technique, as well as how to perform effectively alone and in groups or with worship teams on stage. Everyone will learn a piece of a worship song and at the end of the series, students will have the opportunity to perform some of the material learned in the workshop.

Teacher Bio

Recording Artists from all over the world seek out Jessica's technique "The Ford Technique" along with her very unique ability to bring out 'the Artist Voice' helping singers with their own "unique vocal sound or recording artist voice". Jessica is also known for her top notch Performance Coaching and groundbreaking approach to working with individuals, group singers and bands alike. Whether it's producing vocals, arranging harmonies or arrangements and styling Jessica is a Master at every commercial genre. Jessica's students have appeared on David Letterman, American Idol, The Voice, Nickelodeon, CMT's Can You Duet, CMT, Disney, GAC, Nashville Spotlight, Bobby Jones Gospel TV, and Music City Gospel Review.

GUITAR

Teacher Bios

Gary Poole is the Production Arts Pastor of Venture Christian Church. A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Gary has twenty years of professional performing arts experience, including Broadway credits like Spring Awakening and The Wedding Singer, family-oriented shows including Go, Diego, Go! and Blue’s Clues Live, and serving in the Production arts ministries at churches in Louisville, Savannah, and Atlanta. Gary strives to utilize his knowledge and experience in technical production to enhance worship services and to inspire others to grow in their Christian life through service in production ministry.

Ben White started doing live production for church when he was in junior high and has been involved ever since. He's been working in A/V for over ten years and at Venture for the past four. In his free time he spends time with his family and likes to play music, go biking, and skiing.

BIBLE ART JOURNALING

Come join a class focused on how to worship the Lord through scripture and art. You don’t need to be an artist to enjoy this class. We will show you techniques to turn a scripture into a beautiful picture, help you remember where your favorite verses are found in the Bible, and, most importantly, spend time with the Lord. As we enter the season of Thanksgiving, we will be focusing on meaningful verses that inspire us to give thanks to our one and only Creator and heavenly Father. It is not always easy to give thanks especially when we are going through tough times. We hope that this class will help you to remember that God has a plan and while it may not always be what we expected, His plan is always best and we are to be thankful even when we don’t understand it.

Materials needed: Pencil, eraser, black pen, ruler, Bible, colored pencils (the rest will be provided).

Teacher Bio

Merlynn Bianco, Janet Fritz, and Allie Fritz are three generations of Christian women who are quite crafty and have a love for scrapbooking. We took an exciting plunge into Bible journaling with artistic techniques about two years ago and we haven’t looked back. After attending a workshop with Shanna Noel, the founder of Illustrated Faith in January of 2016, we knew we had to share our love of Bible art journaling.

WORSHIP LEADING

In this class we will discover the heart of worship, as well as learn the practical, hands on skills you'll need to lead worship in small groups and large environments. This class is open to current worship leaders at Venture, as well as those with a serious interest in joining the team.

Teacher Bios

Lucas is an Aussie from Sydney, Australia who began writing and recording music at age 16. He moved to the USA in mid-2002 after meeting his wife, Jody, on a mission trip in India. His passion for worship has taken him across the globe to over 30 countries with songs recorded on CD projects by worship leaders, country bands and solo artists. He has also had the privilege of leading award-winning creative teams producing short films, concert productions, web technology and more.

Shep Gibson is a singer, songwriter, and composer from Western North Carolina who currently co-leads worship right here at Venture Christian Church. He graduated from Furman University (Greenville, SC) with a bachelor’s degree in composition and has been a part of many performing vocal ensembles. He enjoys traveling, being with friends, and acting goofy.

Lexi Hausmann was born and raised in the Silicon Valley, and has been leading worship since age 16. Leading worship is both a calling and a passion of hers, and she seeks to help others connect with the Lord in a new way through worship and expression. She enjoys songwriting and playing guitar, belting Carrie Underwood hits in the car, and roaming the aisles of Barnes and Noble.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Everyone’s Posting or Blogging, Should I? Almost everyone is using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google+ to broadcast their latest experiences. But how can it be used to promote your business, church, service, or point-of-view? This class will be an interactive session designed to identify the best approach for your type of message. Whether you are a business person, supporting your church activities, or someone with an important message, you can use social media to advance your cause. There are right ways, questionable ways, and wrong ways to use it. We’ll start with three common social media platforms, Facebook Pages, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and dive into other platforms as well.

Paceline August Road Ride

  • Alum Rock Ave and Mt. Hamilton Rd

Join Paceline Cycling for a road ride in the Alum Rock area. Paceline Cycling strives to build a community of cyclists who recognize that Christ needs to set the pace for our lives. Through monthly recreational rides and public outreach events, Paceline Cycling offers unique opportunities for combining our love for bikes and Christ.

Paceline Road Ride – Eastside Roll

Route: Eastside Roll (~24 miles)

Meet at the corner of Alum Rock Ave and Mt Hamilton Rd at 7:30am. All parking is on street (see route map link). Expect to be on the bike leaving by 8am.

RIDE INFO:

We will begin at the corner of Alum Rock Ave and Mt Hamilton Road and then descent down to McKee Rd (right). From McKee Rd, we turn right on Toyon and then left on Penitencia Creek Rd. Then make right on White Rd ( which will turn into Piedmont) for about 6 miles. Then continue on Evans Rd eventually with a right on N. Park Victoria. Continue on N. Park Victoria until we reach Scott Rd which will be the turn around point (1st regroup point). We will follow back N. Park Victoria back which will turn into Morrill Ave. About mile 14.3, we will make left on Berryessa Rd with a right on Piedmont and then a left on Penitencia Creek Rd. About a 0.25 miles up the road, we will enter Alum Rock Park (2nd Regroup point) and follow road in park to a service road where we will climb back out of the park. Once outside of the Alum Rock Park, we will make a left on Crothers Rd and continue the climb (3rd Regroup). We will follow Crothers Rd all the way to Mt Hamilton Rd in which we will make a right down the descent until Alum Rock Ave which will be where our cars are located.

The route link above allows you to preview the route to judge the level of the ride. We look at this route as a 90% very flat route where the last 10% is climbing and descending. All the climbs are gradual but has some sections that pitch up to 7-8%. Paceline rides “leaves no one behind.” Everyone will be patient and encouraging to make sure that we all finish this route.

WHAT TO BRING: The typical bike, helmet, snacks & water. Even though summer is ending, that doesn’t mean that the heat is gone. So please bring plenty of water and and snacks as you feel is necessary.

FOCUS: Stay in Step with God
