What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions, run over nine weeks, where anyone interested can explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and relaxed environment. Each session looks at a different question around faith, and the talks are designed to create conversation in small groups afterwards.”
Who is Alpha for?
Everyone is welcome at Alpha, however it is particularly valuable for:
Those who would not describe themselves as Christians or churchgoers, but are curious about Christianity
Those new to the faith or returning after a while and would like to explore at their own pace
Those who are not sure what they believe in, but have a lot of big doubts and deep questions about life, faith and meaning.
What happens at an Alpha session?
Each Alpha session has three elements—food, a talk and conversation—over a 2-hour timeframe.
Each session starts with a complimentary delicious meal. This is an opportunity to connect and get to know new people.
Then, we watch a short, 30-minute talk that explore the basics of the Christian faith and are designed to inspire conversation.
Finally, there is a discussion after the talk where you can share your thoughts and ideas on the session’s topic.
Your Alpha facilitator will make sure every session ends on time.
How long is an Alpha Course?
The Alpha Course at Venture runs for 9 weeks with a Saturday away on October 14.
How much does Alpha cost?
Great news! Alpha is free.
There will be a weekend retreat at the end of Alpha, with a small per-person fee to cover food and accommodation. However, we don’t want finances to be a barrier to people fully experiencing Alpha. If you need financial assistance for the retreat, feel free to contact your Alpha facilitators.
I am coming and will not know anybody else. Is that normal?
Yes! Most people come to Alpha without knowing anybody else on the course. By the end of the course, most people become good friends. Alpha is a great way to meet new people!
Do I have to talk and share my thoughts?
No! You may remain silent if you wish.
Can I just "come and see" for the first week?
Yes! Please register first to let us know that you will be attending.
How do I sign up?
Head to the this form to sign up and one of our team will reach out to you!
I'm a Christian. Can I bring a friend to Alpha?
Yes, absolutely! Alpha is especially for people who are curious about faith, new to Christianity, or exploring life’s big questions. If you have a friend who might benefit from a safe, open space to ask questions, we’d love for you to invite them — and you’re welcome to come along for support.
Just a gentle reminder: Alpha is designed to be a space where people feel free to express doubts and explore at their own pace. If you’re joining, we simply ask that you come with a heart to listen and make others feel safe and respected, especially those new to faith. 😊
